Abandoned by his owner, Scruffy was left fend for himself. He ate scraps and slept anywhere he could, often being chased away by people in the area.
When rescuers got a phone call about a traumatized dog, they didn’t know what to expect. They knew – to some extent – that there was a life in need of immediate help; but the “life” they found was utterly heartbreaking and downright horrific.
Abandoned by his owner, Scruffy was left fend for himself. He ate scraps and slept anywhere he could, often being chased away by people in the area. He kept coming back because that was the only home he knew. But this was two years ago.
Things progressively got worse. Somehow, Scruffy was severely hurt: His right ear has been torn off, and he was left suffered a huge, gaping head wound. As time passed, his untreated wound got more and more rotted and infected – for months. But through it all, Scuffy wouldn’t give up his fight to survive.
By the time TMTRD got to him, Scruffy was barely clinging on. His poor body is riddled with ticks, and his fur is filthy and matted. His ear was filled with maggots, with his skin essentially rotting right off of his body. He’s extremely malnourished, dehydrated, and severely underweight. His eyes are traumatized and caked in dried blood. There’s really no easy way to put it: This poor boy is suffering, in almost every way imaginable.
Rescuers immediately rushed Scruffy to the on-site Medical clinic for emergency treatment, where he remains for round-the-clock care, wound cleanings, IV fluids, and antibiotics. But he is, understandably, severely depressed, and still in pain. This sweet boy wanted help – he just wanted someone who cared. Thankfully, Scruffy is SAFE with TMTRD, and now, he’s got an army behind him.
Please keep this beautiful boy in your prayers as he continues his recovery. If you are able to support Scruffy in his medical journey, please consider donating to his ongoing care. Every dollar and wishlist item donated will go to helping this poor boy in his healing journey. Thank you, everyone, for your kindness and support during this time.
